I ordered a package on the 12th of Jun, which was shipped internationally and arrived state side on the 23rd. The package was shipped with DHL Shipping; the first "attempt" to deliver was made on that monday and unfortunately, I was not home.

No problem, I just contacted and notified them that I will be leaving a note on my door instructing the courier to leave the parcel with the leasing office. The next day, a second "attempt" was made, low and behold the delivery person totally disregard my note and take my property back to the facility. I called them again in order to have it delivered at a later time; the rep told me that the time I specified is not guaranteed. At this point I totally lost confidence that this company was here to help me.

Needless to say, I scheduled a time to go and pick up the package myself.

DHL has very poor service and they do not have the customer's best interest in mind. My adivice would be to avoid having your packaged delivered with this company at all cost; their drivers and service is completely and utterly worthless.

DHL in Thailand is fantastic, unlike it is here in the USA where you get worse-than-third-world service. I can get non-English-speaking people overseas to get the job done but I can't get the bottom feeders here in the USA to get anything done properly. DHL just simply doesn't care.

My experience is no different than many of you with DHL, and I'm not surprised. I live in Turkey and I get packages from around the globe on a regular basis.

I'm an embedded designer and I need to order some components and tools from time to time from abroad, as many of these are not available in the local market. On the other hand, most if not all of my packages are very light and small.

Now, the issue here is not about delivery, it is about the customs clearance process that the DHL provides its customers, which is a pure rip-off by all means. When the first package I received by DHL was stuck at customs, I thought it is a coincidence, but after many shipments with both DHL and TNT, I came to conclude that, when it comes to customs clearance, DHL is the worst EVER!

Few months ago, I have ordered a bench-top small reflow oven for my home workbench at AliExpress. I paid around $330 for the oven shipped to me by DHL. I asked the supplier to ship by TNT, because I had many terrible experiences with DHL before and I'm always expecting the same from them, but unfortunately, they asked for about %60 more in shipping costs to use TNT, so I had to leave it to the chance and accept the DHL. Well, as usual, with DHL there's no chance whatsoever.

Your odds to get a package stuck at customs, no matter how big/small, high/low valued, are 8:10. Well, the oven was held by customs. I tried to get an idea or a rough estimate from a friend of mine, who is by the way the agent of DHL here in the area, but all I heard from him is, we can't find out until we start the clearance process, which is handled by the DHL in Istanbul. Otherwise, I'll have to reject the package.

I had to accept because I was eager to get that oven. After a series of *** questions on whether this oven has an Ultrasonic or not (what the Ultrasonic had to do with ovens for goodness sake??) over a course of two weeks, the shock came in from my friend. The clearance process was done and my total cost was around $680.00. You can imagine my situation at the time!

You might think it's just about customs here in Turkey, and DHL has nothing to do about that. I can simply tell, I have an experience. I have got multiple packages by TNT, and never had an issue with them. Never got a package stuck at customs, and sometimes, packages are bigger than those shipped to me by DHL.

Not only this, but last time I sent a very small parcel for a 5.7" Touch Panel (less than $40 in value) to a customer in Greece, the parcel was stuck at customs and after few days, he was told that the clearance process is going to cost him around EUR.150, which drove him crazy and he had to give up and leave it held at customs forever. Now, I shipped tens of items to Greece by Registered Mail, and all of them were delivered to customers without an issue.

Now apart from customs' clearance, I had similar experiences with them in delivery and condition of package. Out of 100 Touch Panels I shipped to customers by Registered Mail, only one arrived broken to customer.

Once I had to ship a Touch Panel to a customer in France, who was in a rush to get his replacement. The following day I got an email from customer stated that, he received the Touch Panel broken into two pieces.

Nevertheless, it was protected and packaged very very well inside the parcel.

With that being said, I think it is fare to say "DHL is the worst courier around!"
