DHL - Ridiculous $11 customs "payment deferment" fee - other carriers don't charge this if you have an account
Bought some merchandise from an international supplier. My customs duty was only $12 but DHL added an additional $11 for a "payment deferment" fee.
Many shippers charge this so as to keep the package moving rather than hold it at customs awaiting duty payment, but here's the rub - with DHL, it's actually a processing fee that cannot be waived. FedEx has an "advancement fee" when it does the same thing at customs, but it will waive it (and they just bill the account).
No such luck at DHL - you can have an account, you can offer to have them hold it at customs until you can pay, etc. etc., but DHL won't comply and they'll charge you $11.
Gotta make money somehow!
